Rewatching The Newsroom and it’s crazy how much of this show is shockingly even more relevant now than it was 10+ years ago
Main Post:
On probably my fourth rewatch and first in a few year. In an episode in the first season talking about Clarence Thomas taking money from The Koch brothers and it’s crazy how much of the show could be written to take place in 2024 with the actual dialogue barely changing.
Such an incredible show!
It’s kinda crazy how many things discussed in the show are STILL happening now and how ahead of its time it was in a lot of ways.
The Tea Party as the proto-MAGA movement and addressing corporate interference in the news and dark money.
Beyond the political prescience, the show really aged incredibly well.
If ever a show should come back for a new season, it’s this show.

No episode of tv has ever pissed me off as much as the one where Don is being an asshole on a plane then suddenly comes to his senses because he gets to tell a pilot that bin Laden is dead. And then he’s all better because he “reported the news”
It’s the most head-up-your-own-ass, self-important nonsense ever aired on television.
Started Rewatching The Newsroom recently, and it still holds up really well

And I was genuinely afraid that it wouldn't have aged well, but man... It got even better. It hits even harder now, a decade later, with everything going on. But I also think it's because I went from a naive fresh-out-of-high-school kid, to a fully-fledged adult with life experiences and opinions.
I'm on season 2, and I'm DREADING the story lines that will be taking place now because I really hate that guy. But I just wanted to know if anyone else feels the same?
I reminded a friend that it exists and now I'm excited to talk to them about the show since I didn't have anyone to do that with originally. I just watched it in my bubble..
Let me know if you've watched it recently!
Top Comment: The Newsroom didn't really do it for me. While The West Wing's writing could occasionally be preachy, The Newsroom totally crossed that line. It felt like every interaction was set up for a character to drop some profound political statement. Acting was solid, but the writing missed the mark.
The Newsroom
Main Post:
When I came across this show , I did some research on whether it is worth watching or not , I found a lot of negative reviews and articles related to this show , but the ratings on IMDB says otherwise, the ratings of the episodes and the entire show were pretty good. I wanted to know why is this happening where a show has lot of negative reviews and articles but the ratings says the opposite.
Top Comment: Have you watched other Aaron Sorkin shows/movies? Because however you felt about those, you will probably feel the same way about The Newsroom.
Just watched Newsroom for the first time and it wasn't the worst watch. I don't understand the hate it got, thoughts?

Top Comment: I loved it. The dialogue might not be realistic, but regardless, it's so good! Edit: Might not* be realistic.
Is there any real world news source like the newsroom?
Main Post:
If there is, I would love to have my news from there, instead of reddit.
Top Comment: Watch Episode 1 again. Unless you live in a country where channels are required to be politically independent by law, you are pretty much screwed.
Thoughts on the Newsroom

Top Comment: I enjoyed it from beginning to end, despite its flaws (which imo were mainly in the romance sideplots). I think Jeff Daniels absolutely crushed it, as did Sam Waterston and Jane Fonda. And the show produced some real top notch moments...Will’s ‘America is not the greatest’ monologue, the ‘Fix You’ montage as mentioned by another, Charlie vs. Sloan after Fukushima report, the climate change specialist, Leona’s closing rant after Genoa, etc. I loved the whole Genoa storyline...the ‘Red Team’ episode is probably my fav.
Why do people hate The Newsroom so much?
Main Post:
Even though I am not so up to date with the show, I still don't understand the hate on The Newsroom from both TV critics and viewers. I thought it was a good TV show with its honest opinion about the news industry.

I've been watching it since the beginning. I thought the first season was okay. What I don't like about it is that it is SO self important and melodramatic. It just feels silly and contrived (which is saying something given the gravity of real events they deal with). Will Macavoy is portrayed like an omnipotent god. Bleck. Yet I watch..
